CELPIP speaking pro strategies

✓ Use prep time for quick keywords

Write 3–4 key points only. Do not memorize full sentences.

✓ Extend your ideas with examples

In opinion and persuasion tasks, avoid one-sentence answers. Add "because" and one example.

✓ Don't panic about pauses

A 2–3 second pause is normal. Use it to think. Saying "ummm" or "like" too much hurts fluency more than silence does.

✓ Speak at natural pace, not too fast

Clear pronunciation matters more than speed. Slow down if you're nervous. The examiner can understand you better.

✓ Read Task 5 instructions very carefully

Task 5 has two screens. First you choose an option, then you prepare and speak on the next screen.

✓ Use transition phrases for fluency

Words like "First of all," "In addition," "However," "That's why" connect your ideas and make you sound more fluent.
