How It Works
Subordinate clause opener
Move a "because/although/since" clause to the front

Relative clause
Add detail with "which/who/that"

Follow a complex sentence with a short one for emphasis

Common Mistakes
Comma splice

Fix: Two independent clauses cannot be joined with only a comma. Use a conjunction or a semicolon.
Overlong sentence

Fix: Break a chain of "and" clauses into two or three targeted sentences.
